The Carmelita Active monitor (formerly zA1.1A) and the Valentina Active floorstander (formerly zA2.1A) are the ultimate expressions of the purity and musical essence that our speakers are capable of.
Each speaker is internally bi-amplified by two ultra-clean amplifiers. Each amplifier is rated for 190W into 8 Ohms, and 350W into 4 Ohms. The lack of speaker cables and nearly direct connection to the drivers removes a potential hazard to accurate sound, saves money, and reduces clutter.
Sensitivity is adjustable for maximum signal to noise ratio regardless of input drive capability. Maximum output levels and optimal S/N will always be produced, even from low output devices like high-grade portable players (or even phones), just as well as from preamplifiers and high output DAC's.
The crossover is handled by DSP, so the inevitable passive crossover side effects are gone. There's no reduction in damping factor from the DC resistance of series coils, no waste of power in coils or resistors, no off-target frequency response effects, no degradation of transient response by network resonances, and no unwanted phase shifting. lthough DP allows us to use a high order crossover for less interaction between the drivers in the crossover frequency range, we chose a low order to minimize DSP side effects.

Maybe the best thing about the built-in DSP is that it provides you with four frequency response settings. You select between them by hitting a button in back of the speaker. These can be used for all sorts of things.
The standard presets give you four bass levels, so the speaker can be placed more flexibly near or away from walls.
It can also be used to to voice the speaker in various ways. Here's what we've done so far:
put a dip in the brightness range
adjusted the frequency response so it sounds flat forty feet away in the kitchen
added a bump that recreates the "slam" of a ported speaker
inverted hearing loss curves
added a high frequency roll off to simulate audience seating
It's all up to you.
DSP Response Optimization
We use the DSP to optimize the frequency response in ways that are not possible with passive filters. Baffle step and floor bounce are evened out, among other more subtle effects.
The amplifiers use a novel, state of the art, fixed frequency, PPM/PWM modulation technique. This produces unmatched audio performance from any perspective, and intrinsic immunity to intermodulation artifacts. They are also protected against overheating, overcurrent conditions, and non-audio signals. The sound is pure and the amps practically indestructible.
They're also super efficient, wasting only a small fraction of the supply power, unlike linear amplifiers. They could not be more green.
